Case Study Savings Champion
When we first met Anna Bowes and Susan Hannums they talked of their dream to get a better deal for savers.
Our first thought was, “good luck with that!” as it seemed that the comparison sites were already doing exactly this. But, after a little more discussion it became apparent that this absolutely wasn’t true and that not only could they succeed in their endeavour to better inform and assist savers, but we needed to join them on their quest! The country literally needed them.
The challenge was that a great idea needs a platform on which to succeed and a brand through which their idea could be conveyed clearly.
Our first job was to distil exactly what Savings Champion (which it wasn’t called in the early days) was all about. In a particularly well provisioned (cakes & biscuits) workshop we created the brand framework.
Quickly following this (thanks to our lovely coffee) was the brand ID which you can see for yourself.
The next step was to work with them to develop a scalable and robust business management system which could be used to manage and track every savings account available in the UK (Hint Savings Champion offer very comprehensive coverage). Once we’d cracked that particular nut we moved onto bringing their proposition to life online. For this job we opted for a CMS with a bit of venom, or rather we picked Django which utilises the python web framework (is that even a pun?), which was perfect for the type of rapid prototyping that was going to be the order of the day for Savings Champion.
Having just launched it’s quite early to talk about results. That said take a look at Savings Champion and you’ll find a breath of fresh air in the financial market.

Their unique Rate Tracker service lets you track your savings account so that you’ll be notified when your rate gets cut. They never seem to go up unannounced do they?
Anna and Sue believed in helping savers to reduce the £200 billion which is currently earning 0.5% (or less) in the UK savings accounts. We believe that with Savings Champion we are well on track to helping them help you.
